I struggle with this so much! That as soon as I try something I tell myself I’m destined to ‘fail’ as usual and it really puts me off. Deep down I know failure isn’t the right word but I’ve not seen it written in such a way so thank you!

It is just.. stopping, or pausing. Feels cliche to compare us to trees but, they aren’t failing when their flowers wilt and their leaves drop. I think we too are very seasonal and cyclical creatures. And cycles require change 🍁

I love the tree metaphor! And I really like the seasonal concept! I remember someone else mentioning that too. I find it heartwarming and reassuring: it's so easy to stumble into the improve-and-do-better-every-day-mindset, which has its positives, but, honestly, maybe it's not that realistic 🤔it makes a lot of sense to me to think that we're after all seasonal and cyclical creatures!

I have gone through this same realization in the last few years. Allowing myself to miss a day or a week doesn’t mean I can’t pick it up again the next day. Building a streak can be useful sometimes, or a fun challenge, but it is just a tool in the process, not the whole process.

Yes! And I really like how you put it: building a streak is a tool - and I also just had to think that like any tool, it'll be more useful to some people than other, too.

Such an interesting and detailed post as usual! Throughout my writing career, I've had many moments where I thought I failed, such as I "failed to get a publisher" or "failed to reach success". I like your point on trying again, and how the real failure is if we stop what we're trying at all. For me, even with all my current publishing plans, I agree that the real failure would be to stop writing rather than publishing and selling as many copies as I hoped. Best of luck with your writing and journaling as always!

I love your take on this concept, and I totally agree, you gotta keep on writing, no matter what happens after publication! Super excited about your book btw 🤩

Thank you, and all the best to you too!
